Hi, is it possible to create a buffer around a polygon where the size of the buffer depends on the distance from the edge of the polygon to a certain point inside the polygon?
I have an egg shaped polygon, inside this polygon there's a point. On the west-east axis the distance from this point to the outer edge of the polygon is the same on both sides, but on the north-south axis there's a large difference.
The distance from the point to the northern most part of the polygon is 16 km, the distance to the Southern most part is only 8 km.
I only know how to create regular buffers with either a set distance or a distance based on a field, but what I really want would be to create a negative buffer based on, for example, 1/3 of the distance from the edge of the polygon to the point.
Hopefully this question makes sense.
PS:I have ArcGIS for desktop 10.5, the basic license.
starting to sound like a direction/oriented buffer... see the discussion by Bill Huber in this thread
Can you edit your question and draw what you have and want, much easier to understand.
