Cross plattform API?

Will the File GDB API be enabled to be used cross plattform?

I am wondering, why a C++ API should be windows only.
This API might be usefull for other plattforms as well, if someone developes f.e. with the ArcGIS Engine.


Thanks for an answer or idea for further developement of the API.

The 1.0 general release of the FileGDB API has been up since early June. There are four release bundles: Windows VisualStudio 2008 (32- & 64-bit), Windows VisualStudio 2010 (32- & 64-bit),
32-bit Linux, and 64-bit Linux.
