The Introduction to ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) training is a two-day course focused on the ArcGIS for Workflow Manager extension. Students will learn how to use and implement ArcGIS Workflow Manager. ArcGIS Workflow Manager is a scalable enterprise workflow management system that automates and simplifies many aspects of performing and managing repeatable GIS and non-GIS work within an organization. How to restore the default layout of the ArcGIS Workflow Manager application:

  1. Open file explorer and browse to: C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\WMX\<10.#>\
  2. Delete the jtxuiconfig.xml file.
  3. Open ArcGIS Workflow Manager application and tabs appear in default locations.

Suggested instructions for designing workflows:

  • List tasks to be done
  • List people/resources available
  • Find who is responsible for each task & assign
  • Whiteboard the tasks in order with arrows depicting flows
  • Create workflow diagram to visualize & share
    • Update from shared feedback if necessary, share again and repeat this update cycle until approved
  • Create WMX repository
    • Create users, groups and assign privileges
    • Create your steps
    • Create new workflow with steps connected with paths
      • Assign user/group in paths
    • Create new Job Type
      • Choose workflow for the new Job Type
      • Assign job type defaults:
        • Maps
        • Assigned To: User/group
        • Date
        • Workspace
        • Naming
        • Extended Properties
    • Create a job for testing
      • Test job
    • Update if necessary, retest and repeat this update cycle until approved
  • Train everyone on the new Job Type/Workflow
  • Deploy the new workflow to Production
