With EsriUC2024 now behind us, there’s loads of material to consume and digest. Given that ArcGIS was given a pretty substantial update in June, there were lots of interesting discussions and sharing throughout the week. And so, this week I’m glad to share several UC related tips with you.

UC plenary session

The theme of UC 2024 was “GIS, Uniting our World”, an appropriate theme for this year indeed. Similar to previous years, this year we saw Jack Dangermond enthusiastically welcome 20,000+ attendees (in a very packed convention center I’m told) , he shared numerous examples of amazing work being done by Esri customers around the world (always a highlight), and took a deep dive into his and Esri’s vision. Guest speakers included Jeff Kerby, an award-winning natural history photographer for the National Geographic Society, and Minnesota’s Governor, Tim Walz who turned out to be a crowd favorite it seemed. If you didn’t manage to catch any of the day, no problem, Esri has made available all the recordings from Monday for you to enjoy. You’ll find the recordings at https://www.esri.com/en-us/about/events/uc/plenary

Regrid, Nationwide Parcel Map dataset

Something that definitely got my attention was the discussions of a new national parcel boundary data layer. Made available in collaboration with Esri partner, Regrid, users can access this new feature directly through the ArcGIS Living Atlas, saving time on research, procurement, and sourcing. The tile layer can now be accessed as a new addition to Esri Premium Content. WOW-Tech, GeoAI was hot!

If you took in some of the live sessions, perhaps you were impressed with what you saw of GeoAI, in particular, Esri’s new pre-trained data models.

GeoAI is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) with GIS to produce knowledge and solve geographic problems. It is a key part of spatial analysis for tasks related to clustering and pattern detection, prediction and forecasting, and information extraction from imagery, lidar, videos, and unstructured text data. Imagine quickly and easily extracting building footprint data or classifying trees or other objects from your imagery! See the following resources to learn more:

ArcGIS Data Pipelines - an intuitive drag-and-drop interface

Is data preparation the most time-consuming part of your workflow? If so, then this is for you! ArcGIS Data Pipelines streamlines data integration in ArcGIS Online, offering a fast and efficient way to ingest, prepare, and maintain data. It provides an intuitive drag-and-drop interface that minimizes the need for coding skills, reducing the time to produce outputs. Data Pipelines also supports automation via task scheduling functionality.

Pipelines provides for connectivity and extraction of vector and tabular data from a range of sources such as Amazon S3, Google BigQuery, and Snowflake

Answers to All Your Questions

Once again, as they do each year just prior to UC, Esri fielded hundreds of questions from users around the World. These questions, along with the responses fielded by Esri leaders, product engineers, and subject matter experts make up a very extensive Q&A. This valuable resource is a must-bookmark and I expect that there are answers to some questions that you may have regarding Esri and Esri technology and solutions.
