Hi all, I'm a student user of esri products and a prospective user of business products. Where is the best place to look for freely available electric power industry map layers? Utility, refinery locations, electric service territories, etc.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I think this link will have anything you would need.

Electric Retail Service Territories should be the local level power company boundaries.
Would like to find more information on this - has anyone sourced the electric utility map layers? There seem to be some state by state resources, but was wondering if there are service territory maps for the US as a whole anywhere?
This is a good place to start for alot of energy sector GIS data.

What level of detail electric service territory were you looking for exactly? Distributor level or are you trying to get down to the local power company level?
Yes, thank you, I found that - that's a good resource!
I'm specifically looking for a map layer of the service territories for Rural Electric Cooperatives. There is a pdf on the NRECA website here - https://www.cooperative.com/public/maps/PublishingImages/service-territory/ServiceTerritoryMap.gif
Called them, but they don't seem to have a GIS or shapefile for it.

See also this ArcGIS Online Viewer of the boundaries.

This is great! It includes investor and non-investor owned service territories - perfect! Thanks for your help!
