In my organization we use IWA in Portal to login and view webmaps. Is there a way to login into Portal by just using your sign in name and password once when you log into your computer. I don't want to type in my login twice (once for my computer and once for Portal). Is there a way to be logged into Portal by just using your Name and Password once?

Unfortunately, using mixed Identity stores do not allow this. You will always be presented with the login page where you can enter either a built-in user's credentials or that of the Windows user. If your implementation can work with Windows users only, you can follow this section in the Help to implement IWA for a more SSO-like experience.

If you want to use built-in portal users/groups and have a SAML provider that uses your Active Directory users (Like Entra ID), you can set that up and customize the login page to automatically select the SAML login, which will forward to the SAML login. If that login page is set up to recognize the logged in user, it should not require entering credentials again. Please note that customizing the Portal login page is not supported by ESRI. I recommend backing up the files and be prepared to restore those files if needed.

Tony,

Let me see if I understand this correctly, If I use my windows login on my computer in the morning when I get to work and then want to access Portal, that is set up with IWA already, I will have to login again with the same username and password, so 2 times, correct? There is no way around this? does ESRI support  anything like this?

Hi Paul,

I did not read your post correctly and was under the impression that you were also using built-in Portal users. If your setup only has AD users and you have properly set things up for the web tier to handle IWA, then the logged in user should automatically authenticate without having to provide credentials again.

Tony,
I am the only admin user and everyone else is just a viewer or has very limited access. So what I want to do will not work according to what you said, right? At least with my IWA setup as admin I still have to sign into my computer to get access to the network and when I want to access Portal I have to sign in again.

If you are set up according to the documentation and still getting prompted for credentials, I would contact Esri Support. It should work if you are only using IWA users (no built-in accounts).
