At NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information in Colorado (formerly the National Geophysical Data Center), we've been running production Esri map services and custom map applications for over 15 years. This long history has benefited us in some ways, but in others it's a hindrance as we carry forward practices optimized for earlier versions of the software.
In this talk I'll describe the architecture, software development methods, and best practices that we've evolved over that time. We're a small team that handles both operations and development; I'll cover things that work well, things that still have room for improvement, and plans for the future.
