I found the thread below regarding finding the total number of edits in a version.

http://forums.esri.com/thread.asp?c=158&f=2291&t=291327

My question is, how can you then export the results found in the Version Changes table to be used in a report? I found a similar question posted on the ArcGIS Ideas page, but it was posted nearly a year ago (see link below). Our goal is to track the amount of editing being done by our users to quantify progress being made in our data clean-up task. Thanks for any tips or suggestions!

Hi Jennifer,

I've used for some years ago a script that could make it possible to see the changes in a version after the reconcile operation. I understand that this is not exactly what you are looking for, but maybe you could still use it:
http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=15703

Another thing that you might look at is archiving. I am not sure you've worked closely with it, but it does provide an information on how feature looked and what attributes it had in previous "states". It is not just versioning due to the logic behind, but maybe it could be useful for you:
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Geodatabase_archiving/0027000000450000...

I was thinking that if you could use Geodatabase History Viewer (http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Working_with_the_Geodatabase_History_V...) to see features edited over a certain period of time and then export those features from the layer in the table of contents. Maybe you could set up a test environment and see how it works and whether it fits your needs.

Good luck!

Hi Alex, thanks for your response! The script may serve our needs, if not will try the archiving. Thanks again for the tips/suggestions! Jennifer

Our data is used by many agencies outside of our own.  A report of some kind is needed.  The links provided so far do not really fit the bill.  What most people want is exactly what is produced by the version changes tool.  A report of what the data change was.  Not the date, time, or editor.  But that it was Smith St and it was changed to Risk Blvd.  We need something that tells us what the change was.  The closest thing that exists is the feature compare tool.  The problem with that is it produces a completely worthless txt file of garbled info.  Telling me a bunch changed but not giving me a one to one comparison.

We are close but not there.  If anyone has figured it out I would be greatly appreciative to hear your methods.  Or if someone knows how to decipher the output of the feature compare tool.
