Hi:

I am working with ArcGIS 10 and the Mosiac Dataset.  I am trying to add an large .SID file to my mosiac data set and it adds fine, however it doesn't create the overviews at small scales.  I have other sids that word just fine, but this one will either give me a gray box for the overview or not at all, depends on the scale. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  BTW I am converting to tiff to see if that helps, but that is not the ideal solution.

Thansk!

I am wondering if you found a solution to your gray overviews.  I am having the same problem.  When I create a mosaic dataset by adding rasters (and clicking the Build Overviews button), i get an error.  Sometimes the overviews are all gray.

The gray is usually an indication that you cannot see the overviews (permissions)or they have not been built.  If you are having issues with seeing the SID at finer scales and the performance is slow, then consider stripping out the overviews in the SID when adding it to a mosaic dataset. This workflow will create more overviews during the Build Overview step, but will increase the performance.

If you are still having issues, I recommend creating a Support Incident and have an analyst take a look at your service with you.
