Problem adding Excel 2010 tables

Very recently, I think since upgrading to ArcDesktop 10.3, I started having a problem adding Excel 2010 tables. 

I'm getting an error message that says: "connect. Failed to connect to database. An underlying database error occurred. Class not registered."

If I save the Excel 2010 file as Excel 97-03, I don't have the problem. But, of course, that limits me to about 64,000 rows of data.  and I have a spreadsheet of 400,000 oil and gas wells I want to map.

Can anyone help?
