Overview Processing Time

I am generating overviews for a very large dataset and am wondering if the processing times I am seeing are reasonable.  My dataset is composed of 3384 tiff files, each 293 MB each.  There are approximately 1600 overviews to create.  The process has been running continuously for 25 days and it is 62% complete. The computer I am running it on is a Windows XP 64 bit machine with 12 GB of RAM. I am running build 2800 of ArcGIS 10. 

Is this an appropriate length of processing for this size of dataset? Is there anything I can do to speed up this processing or any future processing of this size?

Hi Sarah,  You just made me feel so much better about my own impatience when building overviews.  But my computer  has been running for 25 hours not days!  I am building overviews for a mosaic dataset of about 4000 images (jp2s) which range up to 20 Mb each.  Did you find an answer to your question about how to make it run faster?  I only have 4 GB of RAM.
