Is it possible to administer ArcSDE Service from other machines

Is it possible to administer ArcSDE Service from other machines(Client and not from the Server). ArcSDE is on SQL Server.

-We have to Start/Restart the ArcSDE Service from client machine. Is it possible to do it from any machines other than Server. (Either through GUI or Script/.bat file)

-I came across a document regarding scheduling ArcGIS Server service.

Can I follow that document for scheduling ArcSDE Service.

-Previously I had used Putty on ArcSDE for Oracle. Will putty work for ArcSDE on SQL Server.

No, you can't use PuTTY on a Windows host, but you can use Remote Desktop,
and you can configure the service for remote start, and you can abandon use
of application servers in favor of Direct Connect.

Thanks for your response and suggestions. We have to restart the ArcSDE Service at 3AM(schedule). Can I use the command which you had mentioned (Starting a remote ArcSDE service on Windows) to schedule it. Is there any other scripts or commands to schedule it.

A google on "schedule commands on windows" should address this, though
I've never seen a need for daily service restart (that seems excessive).

I found some articles regarding scheduling commands on windows. However it applies scheduling within the server and in our case, we have to schedule it from a client machine. Any suggestions.

You've got a way to submit remote commands and a way to execute those
commands according to the clock. The only thing I can add is to make sure
you put a delay between the shutdown and the start (at least 10-15 seconds)
so that the start doesn't fail due to incomplete shutdown.

Oh, and I should also recommend you abandon application server connections
again, since they're difficult to use at 10.1/10.2 and will be unavailable at the
next major release.
