Hi,

I recently started a new job and am in need of importing new feature classes to existing geodatabases.  The problem I am running into is that I am not the owner of any of the databases we have, and from what I have read, only the owners of the database can add feature classes to it.  I know that the person in the position before me was able to add files to the database and he was not the owner of it.  Do I have to contact the owner and have him grant me permission to add feature classes, or is there some other method to placing feature classes onto the database?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris,

Any user with the necessary permissions can add data into a geodatabase. You don't need to be the owner of the geodatabase to add new Feature Class.

If you currently don't have permissions, then YES, you need to contact that person and have him grant the permissions.

NOTE: It would be really great, if you post details of the version of ArcGIS and Database you are working with, along with the original post, so that we can provide you with any related links which would help.

Thank you for the quick response.  The versions we are currently running are 10.1 for ArcGIS and 10 for ArcSDE.  I will include this in future posts.

Chris,

You missed out on the Database (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL,...) information in the last post...

Anyway, assuming you are working with either SQL Server or Oracle, as they are the most widely used, here are a few links you can refer to regarding the permissions:

SQL Server:

Oracle:

Hope this helps!
