I have a CIR Image from the GeoEye-1 Satellite. In this image it shows some waterways in the color purple or violet. Others are black or dark blue. In the same image, but True Color, the same waterways are bright green or dark green/brownish. Question:

- When looking at water in a remote sensing CIR image, what does it mean if the water color is purple or violet?

I would assume it is a high level of algae because there is very little circulation in these water bodies.

Not sure if you found an answer to your question yet...

I'm no "expert", but I would assume that along with algal growth, there could be other reasons for changes in colour like amout or angle of light, depth, pollution... I'm sure the list goes on.

Found this webpage, not sure how reliable it is...  Hope it's helpful!
