How to Edit non versioned SDE table

Hi all

I am using SDE in Oracle 10G, and the account opening the table has erad and write privileges.

Is it possible to edit a SDE table that is not versioned in an editing session in Arc Map? 

Is there any difference between the fact that the database is protected or public?
