How to convert a shapefile to a raster file using an existing grid?

Hi,

Is there a way in arc to convert a shapefile to a raster but so that the new grid is the same as an existing grid in a different raster file?

Basically I have some soil maps that all have the same 1x1km grid and the BGS bedrock geology map which is a shapefile. I need the BGS layer to have exactly the same grid as the soil maps so that I can preprocess it to put into a hydrological model. Is this possible in arc?

Thanks for your help!

You would like to convert to a raster and then also maintain the same grid spacing?

If you have the original raster to emulate, then you can set the extent and snap raster to that raster prior to converting with the Feature to Raster tool.  Also be sure that the cell sizes match as well.  That is the only way I think you can get the two to match.  Set the environment settings prior to the conversion.
