I am geocoding a large dataset and I have a couple thousand records to rematch by hand.  There are a couple of address errors that keep showing up.  I would like to correct them in batches, so I tried to use the "Find & Replace funciton.  I know that I have used "Find & Replace" while rematching in the past, but I can't make it work right now.  The "Replace" field is grayed out.  Does anyone have any suggestions about how to make this function work?

Thanks, Geodud

Hi,

Start editing session for the layer you want to edit your data from Attribute table > Options button > Find & replace.

Thanks Alex.  I know I have managed that in some other way, because I have never done it this way before, but this works great.  I don't see the buttons you mentioned in your response, but I appreciate your simple, accurate, and timely response.

Maybe I am not clear here.

In order to be able to use the Find&Replace functionality (which I guess you access from the Attribute table of the layer), you need to start the editing session. This is because it is pretty much the same thing as creating new features or maybe editing the attributes of the existing features.

You start the editing session by clicking the Editor button on the Editor toolbar in ArcMap > Start Editing. Here you can find the instructions on how to do this: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Starting_an_edit_session_Start_Editing...

The button I called Table Options (at least what you see in the pop-up text when you hover the mouse over) is called Options Menu in the Help pages is as in the picture:
