Not sure if this is in the right section of the forum but here goes. I was working on inputting some data onto a GIS shapefile and my computer crashed.

After getting it back up and running again I went back into the programme to get back working on it and when I open it up in ArcCatalog it comes up Open Failed with the message "Error opening feature class.  Number of shapes does not match the number of table records."

I was wondering if there as any way in getting access to the table to delete the any records so the two match OR is there anyway in getting hold of a previous version of the shapefile, i.e. a copy of the shapefile from prior to the computer crash.

All copies of the shapefiles are on my computer only.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

Hey Andrew,

From the error message you are receiving, I would suggest taking a look at the following KB (Knowledge Base) article. It has suggestions about how to resolve this error for shapefiles.

Error opening feature class. Number of shapes does not match the number of table records

Hope this helps.
