Erase features in Raster Image

Hello,

I've got a problem with my ArcGIS project. I have a 2 bit basemap as layer with topographic and topologic information. But some of the information is irrelevant or should be erased because an updated version of the information will be added throughout the settings of the project.

Example: The basemap layer contains crosshairs of the spatial grid which will be added again by the dataframe - unfortunately they are not 100% in sync with the static ones so that does not look nice.

Anways, I have tried to erase the static crosshairs with the raster painter tool (?) in the ArcScene extension. That works perfectly but strangely, the next time I open the project the erased information appears again. And yes, I have definately pressed "save" like a million times.
So now my question is: Is the raster painter tool only useful for automated digitizing with ArcScene or is there any other way to erase features in an underlying raster?

I hope you understand my question, sorry for a poor explanation.

Thanks,
Khaled

Khaled,
You have erased the parts you do not want to display, but have you defined a "No Data" value? Perhaps you are seeing the lack of data because the nodata color is not set to NULL?

I am not sure I understand what you mean. Here is a screenshot of my current settings: . Shouldn't that be alright?
If you have any better suggestions to set up a raster painting sessions, I will be very interested!

Thank you very much in advance,

Khaled
