Edit Colour of Shapefile in ArcMap

Hi,

   I am trying to edit the color of a shapefile in Arcmap.   when I select the 'pour color' icon,  I am unable to do so.

Could any body advice me.

I am just editing a particular region( say a reservior) and not the entire layer.

I am not certain what the "Pour Color" icon is, but if you double click on the shapefile in the table of contents, and then go under the "Symbology" tab, you can choose the symbol type and color you want to use.
