Hello I was wondering if anyone was aware of an edge detection filter I could use within arcgis to run on a high resolution DSM?

I read about someone doing this in an academic paper but I'm not sure how to go about it.

It's meant to be a good way to detect archaeological features.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Mark,

Can you point me to the paper that you're referencing?

There are many available approaches in SA. Try a high pass filter (Neighbourhood/Filter). Also FocalStats with custom kernel files could be the answer. In the Surface box, Curvature enhances the differences between nearby cells.

Hello Kevin. Sorry but I seem to have lost the paper now. It mentioned using a 7x7 edge detection filter to detect archaeological features.

Thanks GSCUser85 I'll have a look at them.

I actually found you can use the Convolution Function in Raster Functions. However I'm not sure how to interpret the imagery after it is produced. Ideally I'd eventually like to end up with a vector layer showing the straight lines.
