Everyone,

(I am using ArcGIS 10)

I am doing a graduate research project concerning the use of a total station versus a DGPS in mapping skeeltal remains and associated evidence at a crime scene.  I do not have much experience with CAD data (from the total station that we used).

This is what I am looking to do: import the total station data (I have it as an excel/csv and dxf) and then georeference it to coordinates (of 5 points) that I have taken with a DGPS.

First I tried exporting the dxf file in arcCat to a geodatabase and recieved an error stating "Failed to convert:(Filepath). Problem generating Output Name (ERROR 999999....)".  This problem also occured with trying to export it as a shapefile.  I understand that there is a problem with the output name but there is no place to specify an output name that I can see.  So, I tried just dragging it into Arcmap (which worked fine.. the points did show) and then exporting it but when I tried exporting, the points disappeared along with any data.

I need to get past this step to be able to georef the data which I plan on doing with the Spatial Adjustment tool.

Any thoughts?
