Hi,
we have problems to make a direct connection from ArcCatalog10 to ArcSDE (Oracle 11g, Windows Server 2008/R2). There is always the error: "Server library could NOT be loaded".

- There is no mismatch because of different versions and service packs.
- Oracle is configured correctly: a connection to the Oracle SDE account can be established with SQL Plus.
- The ArcCatalog spatial database connection is working correctly when using the 5151/tcp connection. [This connection was deleted before trying the direct connection.]

Is there anybody with an idea what to do/check next?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have a 32-bit Oracle client library on the ArcGIS Desktop host? (The LoadLibrary function
returns "not found" if it is found, but not the right wordsize).

Yes, I have forgotten to tell this. The 32bit Instant Client from Oracle was installed.. ArcGIS is installed on Windows XP.
What else:
- The SDEHOME variable was checked and is correct. It is a new arcsde installation on that server, no previous sde installations..
- The dbinit.sde file was also checked, no errors were found.

Any other idea(s)?
Thanks,
Martin

Instant Client will be enough at a future release (10.1), but I've never gotten it to work with 9.x or 10.0.

Hi Martin,

Vince is correct. The instant client isn't supported at 10 or 9x. It will be at 10.1. You'll need to use the adminstrator or runtime client. More info:
