One of my users is experiencing a strange problem that I have so far not yet been able to successfully diagnose.

He is trying to create a Mosaic DataSet from rasters held in a raster catalog in ArcCatalog but it is taking an absolute eternity to process. He is getting something like 0.13% network service performance during the process.

We are currently trying to diagnose what could be wrong. But are so far drawing a blank. Our desktop support team have performed various network tests, changed the kind of cabling the user is using etc... I have looked into the rasterbuffsize setting in the server giomanager.defs file. We have swtiched off McAfee on the server to rule that out and even speculated if it could be that the client machine is 32bit and Server is 64bit: We have ArcSDE (version 10 sp3) installation on SqlServer2008 r2 and the server OS is Windows Server 2008. Both installations are 64bit. The client Os is Xp and all desktop apps are ArcGIS10 sp3.

Has anyone experienced similar issues and have any suggestions for how we can increase the performance here. We have around 1.3TB of aerial imagery to create mosaic datasets from for various MOD sites around the country and this is hampering our progress for moving from file geodatabases to a central SDE repository for imagery massively.

I hope someone can help!

We have experienced very slow perfromance when accessing network drives. Is their data on a network?
