ST_EstimatedExtent provides about 95% accuracy for initial extent calculations and for global-scale datasets where detailed bounding box information may not be necessary, it would be ideal to speed up performance of map-based interactions to PostGIS-backed layers.
This would be particularly useful for query layers published from PostgreSQL!
