Yet another XY out of place question.
Imported Excel table with XY coordinates.
Coordinate system for point layer is the same as the data frame.
When XY event is created in ArcMap points are about 150 miles from where they should be.
When XY are plotted in Google Maps they are in the correct position.
It's been a long day and can't think of any rationale reason as to why this is occurring. Any ideas/insight greatly appreciated.
are the coordinates in decimal degrees? degrees decimal minutes? degrees minutes seconds? Projected?
Did you try using the Excel to Table tool to bring in the excel data?
Do you have a few sample points you could post?
What is the coordinate system that is being used?

Coordinate system of both the layer and data frame is TM65_Irish_Grid.
Edit: I should add that if I use the go to XY tool it brings me to the correct location.
Just to confirm...
When you make a XY event layer from this table you are specifying that the input coordinates are a geographic coord sys? TM65_Irish_Grid is some form of projected system.
Thanks Neil. Yes, had been specifying a geographic coordinate system.
As Neil says, these are a GCS (geographic coordinate system) and depending on the source of the data (GPS???) are probably in a WGS84 datum, hence you need to define the coordinate system either when you bring them in or after (Define Projection tool).
You will ultimately need to save them as a featureclass in a File Geodatabase or a shapefile (if sharing).
This file can then be used to produce a projected version (Project tool)

I had used WGS84 (geographic) yesterday but for some reason points were still showing up in an incorrect position.
I had a clean run at it this morning and thankfully points are now showing up where they should be.
