While fine-tuning a technical workshop for next week, my co-presenter and I realized that our comment of "don't forget these knowledge base articles!" (see terminology note below) wasn't very helpful. You used to be able to go to http://support.esri.com and type in a knowledge base/technical article number like 23025. That would bring up "FAQ: Projection Basics: What the GIS Professional needs to know."

The Support website has been redesigned and that trick no longer works. Below I've included the new links to some of the useful coordinate systems, map projections, and geographic (datum) transformations technical articles.

23025: http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000005562, FAQ: Projection Basics: What the GIS professional needs to know

17420: http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000002813, FAQ: Where can more information be found about coordinate systems, map
projections, and datums?

29129: http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000007880, How To: Identify the
spatial reference, projection, or coordinate system of data

21327: http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000004829, How To: Select the correct geographic (datum) transformation when
projecting between datums

24893: http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000006217, How To: Identify an unknown projected coordinate system using ArcMap

29035: http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000007831,
How To: Define the projection for CAD data for use in ArcMap

If you have a favorite KB/technical article number, you can also append the number to this partial link:

http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/

which will automatically redirect to the new URL.

Terminology note: Originally, they were called knowledge base articles and sometimes referred to as KB articles. A few years ago, the name was changed to technical articles.

It took me forever to find this article (courtesy of new and improved ESRI user forums), but sadly, the cited http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/ "translation" link does not work  I ha...

Dan,

I just tried it on a device external to Esri's network (sort-of) and it worked. Copy/paste the base link, then add in the article number. It should work. Example (broken link on purpose):

http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/29035

Thanks Melita. The issue turned out to be with my Chrome browser – too many tabs open!!??. Dan Patterson’s response was also helpful. Appreciate you guys ☺

I am also unable to find a specific article with the url provided above, specifically looking for Article ID 43902, regarding a message "Cannot Convert Polylines to Polygons with Curves to JSON".

The only reason I was able to find the Article ID was via google search and the resultant  Stack Overflow article  that described the issue I am having.  Any help/guidance would be great.  Thanks,

Ryan

Hello everyone,

I am a member of the Esri Online Support Resources team, and we are responsible for knowledge base article maintenance. Last year, we updated our Support website and migrated to a new content management system, which changed the numbering scheme (i.e. article 29035 is now 000007831 - both links lead to the same article). For a short time, there were no URL redirects to the new article versions. We apologize for any inconveniences experienced during that time.

Since June 2016, URL redirects for all Esri technical articles have been implemented. Issues finding technical article content should be minimized.

However, should you find an article (from bookmarks, references, etc.) that does not link to a new version, links to an empty Support page, or leads to a 404 error, please send us feedback by navigating to the Esri Support site and using the Feedback form at the bottom of the page.

Also, for future reference, the URL scheme is now:
http://support.esri.com/technical-article/"new_article_number"

Thanks, Greg

any resolution/timelines associated with this issue (AGO accommodating true curves)???

the 'work-around' solution ain't great as export to .shp then Copy > Paste doesn't carry forward all field mappings.

curious - does export to shp remove true curves and introduce vertices on all these features?
