Private Message Drafting: What You See Is Not What You Get

When I am typing out a private message and use multiple paragraphs, I see this:

When I send that message, the paragraph breaks seem to collapse down to simple line breaks.

It's a little frustrating to send a message and have it render as a dense wall of text, when you thought it was formatted nicely.

So you don't see an "Expand full message" button like this?

When I hit that button, it displays the proper formatting with line breaks. To be honest though, I see different behavior for different message threads. Not sure why. Maybe I'm missing something.

Also, it's a long shot, but I wonder if the type of line break affects things at all? (ENTER vs. SHIFT+ENTER)

The type of line break doesn't seem to matter. And I only see this in private messages. "Expanding" the message only shows me more of it, and that option doesn't appear for short messages.
