I'm working with a coworker who does indoor building surveys. We rarely receive CAD files of floor plans. We are looking into creating floor plans ourselves using LiDAR or something similar. Our goal is to be able to build 2D floor plans from the field collected data to use for reports and show our field notes/data etc.
