Enhancements we would like to see for the shortlist template:
- Use different maps for each tab in the shortlist
- Change colors of top banner/header or sidebar menu (just like you can in the story map tour)
- Have different map extents set for each type of device so you can get a perfect zoom level for whatever device the app loads on
Issues/bugs we have encountered:
- On a mobile device, the thumbnail image becomes the main image when you click on a specific item/location even if you have the main set to be something different
- The first time you click on a an item/location for more details or information the scroll bar will not let you scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. If you move to another item/location and then come back it works fine
I too am having the issue with the zoom level on mobile devices differing from what is set and seen on the desktop view. I can't see where to set that within our self-hosted code, within builder, or within the json editor.
Also, the WEBSITE field shows 2 links on iOS devices, BUT only after the initial load AND clicking a thumbnail, and then arrowing left or right to another place. http://chesco.org/farmfinder As a workaround, we've emptied out the WEBSITE field and moved the URL's over to the DESC5 field.
Another thing we're seeing on ours and when viewing shortlist maps made by others is that the shortDesc div does not appear on iOS devices, but does when viewing on Android and Desktop. As a workaround, we've emptied the SHORTDESC field placing that content into the adjacent DESC1 field instead.
iOS view missing shortDesc Div:
Android view with shortDesc Div:
Thanks and hope this helps others and gets answers for Courtney and me.

Hi Courtney and Gene
Thanks for this feedback and issue reports.
Our plan with Shortlist beta is to address issues but for enhancements we are planning some new development that may see us create a new app that combines Shortlist and Map Tour type functionality to provide a more comprehensive approach to displaying and managing places.
Courtney, for your feedback

We do see the need for this but we've no plans to do this because the Shortlist is strictly a single map app. A similar request we do get for the Shortlist that may provide the same ability is to allow authors to turn different supporting layers on and off based on what tab the author selected. This is a feature we would like to add in a future release so that, for example, a Hiking Trails tab can turn on the hiking trails supporting line layer(s). If you want to provide completely different maps for different tabs, our suggestion would be to try the Story Map Series app instead. Here are a few examples from the travel/recreation subject area in the Story Maps Gallery for Map Series:.
- Change colors of top banner/header or sidebar menu (just like you can in the story map tour)
(updated 1 Jul 2017) This is now possible in the Story Map Shortlist Builder. See the Settings > Theme tab we added via an update last week
> - Have different map extents set for each type of device so you can get a perfect zoom level for whatever device the app loads on
We have an issue submitted thanks about the zoom level on mobile devices sometimes being different, and Gene also noted that in his reply below. This may be a tricky one for us to fix easily.

Thanks for highlighting this. We do this on purpose on mobile to workaround a performance issue with the tech we are using for our mobile view. It is something we'd definitely like to address in a future release with some new development are are planning

(updated 1 Jul 2017) This was fixed in the update last week along with a couple of other related scroll issues.
Gene>> , Thanks for those reports too in your reply. We have an issue logged and can repro the extent issue on mobile.
(updated 1 Jul 2017) Gene, the two issues with the field names you highlighted for us were fixed in the update last week
