Hi,

I'm making a story map (series), and need to open an external map located on an external webpage.

I want the external website to open a map with the same layout (visible area) as is currently showing in the story map.

It is possible to add coordinates at the end of the URL that would fix this for me.

Anybody who knows how to extract the current coordinates from the story map and to send them together with the URL to the external map viewer?

Greatful for any advice!

Cheers,

Kjetil

Hello Kjetil,

While I'm not sure if there's a way to extract the current extent of your map, I can at least hopefully give you half of your puzzle. You can use web map URL parameters to define the extent of a map. There's a pretty good example on the following page:

Use URL parameters to modify maps—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS

Hopefully that at least gets you part of the way towards your goal!

See also this corresponding blog post about Story Map parameters. It doesn't address this particular question, but I thought it would be good to mention:
