Heatmap for a webmap varying scale and extent
Hello! I am making a webmap that shows my point data as a heat map. On a broad scale, I want to display my heat map the way it is currently showing. See photo below. Unfortunately, I run into trouble when I zoom into a specific community, for example Anchorage shown below. I do not like the way the heat map is rendering at…

Creating reference map from scratch versus out of the box
Hello, I am a county GIS technician that is making a series of large and small scale reference map for my county sheriffs department. As you know making a reference map from scratch that is legible is difficult. Are there any out of the box label groups and symbology groups online that can help me produce a boiler plate…

Snapping Polygon Labels to Edge of Screen
Good morning, I'm labeling a layer with large polygons to provide quick reference to map users. These poly's are much larger than the scale we are typically viewing. An example being a county-sized poly when we are typically zoomed to a block or two. This being the case, the labels generally float near the middle of the…

Archiving projects or aprxs
We create maps for publication yearly. We are finishing up this year and getting ready to make updates on maps for the next publication cycle. How do we archive our current maps/layouts/projects so that they are saved as is? How do we go forward with updating the project WITHOUT making changes to the previous edition…

Can you have a projected coordinate system with WGS84 datum?
Ok I am trying to wrap my head around one of the comments from my advisors on my thesis proposal. I note that all of my analysis are being done in the WGS84 coordinate system to ensure there’s no offset between images (I’m looking at both google earth imagery and another private sources imagery that are in WGS84). My…

Geographic Coordinate Systems Vs. Projected Coordinate Systems Question?
<span;>Hello everyone! So I'm taking an intro to GIS class at my college and I'm trying to find any good forums or groups that I would be able to ask questions and problem solve stuff? I'm trying to find a good community forum that I could ask this question that my textbook had at the end of the chapter on coordinate…

Extent Indicators, Second leader line
Hello, I have created an extent indicator on my map with two data frames. I can create a leader line but I want to add a second one. The leader lines go straight to the inset map and I'd like two leader lines going to opposite corners of the inset map.

street grid with labels on the perimeter of the map area
Two things: 1. I'd like to label the street grid, but on the perimeter of map, not on the actual street. Does this label style have a name? 2. Is there a way to do it in ArcGIS Pro? Thanks! Here are some example of what I'm talking about.

Predominance Toolset in ArcMap
I found a blog on github.com for creating the Predominance Toolset in Arcmap. I have replicated all the steps and have the two geoprocessing tools: When I run the Calculate Gap there are no fields available to select. My input feature class is a subset of block groups with a few demographic variables. Has anyone used this…

How to reorder features in layout?
I am trying to reorder features in a layer so that they 'draw' in the order I want them to hide underlying feature lines. Is this possible in ArcGIS Pro? I exported each feature and that still didn't work as the features (buffers) rescaled for each one. Any advise?

importing mr. Sid. 24GB..six hours and counting what gives?
Using ArcMap: Issue: Received an Aerial Photograph of Oneida County, WI from the county and it is a Mr Sid format and exceeds 24 GB. I did copy it to my solid state drive first, and then tried importing it as a raster in ArcCatalog and after three hours of chugging away, I cancelled the process, which after three more…

How can I replicate a legend like this (example in post), preferably within arcGIS Pro or another free, open source software?
I've been working on an updated road map and I'm 99% finished. The last hurdle I have to clear is figuring out how to wrap a very large legend around various map elements on my layout. I would like it to look something like this. Specifically, some columns need to be taller than others in order for it all to fit. I used to…

Best way to create static maps for a website?

Is there a workflow for looping through .pagx files in order to standardize the map templates by accessing certain elements?
I think this is a separate issue from the ones I've found open regarding layouts - but apologies if this query already exists. I am looking to batch edit via Python a set of pagx files - but I'm not finding any samples or instructions on this. For example, I'd like to point to a folder, and add a certain north arrow to all…

ANSI E (34x44) layout not preserved from Desktop 10.7 to 10.8?
Hello, I recently updated my Arc Desktop from 10.7 to 10.8. After updating, all of my ANSI E (34x44) layout .mxd documents that were saved in 10.7, will no longer open in 10.8 with the correct layout, sizing, or proportions. The map opens in a strange 7.25x10.25 layout and I have tried to reset the Page and Print Setup to…
