Hello,

I have several users of ArcReader 9.3.  Are there any significant enhancements in ArcReader 10, or is this essentially a dead app?

OK, I guess the question is does ArcReader 10 offer any new features, or does it just maintain existing functionality to be compatible with the release of ArcGIS 10?

The "Find" dialog is changed to reflect the tabs that are available in 10.  It is also comes up much faster, which is why I upgraded as soon as possilbe.

One enhancement that would be nice is HTML popups.

I've had ArcMap 10 w/Publisher installed for several months, but just now did a "Publish" on a map.  When I double-click the .pmf to launch Reader, I get this window/message:
Application Not Installed
The appropriate application for the file selected is not currently installed on the system.  If you have the product installed you may be missing an extension.
Application: ArcReader
File Type: ArcReader Published Map File

Anyone know why it won't open - I enabled Open with All Applications in the Publisher Setup, but still get the message - won't even open the .pmf in ArcMap.

Dope slap!  That's what I get for blaming ESRI for a Windows issue . . .  thanks!

Anyone still listening to this thread? Can someone validate for me whether ArcReader no longer installs automatically as part of the Desktop install at version 10? I have publisher installed, create a pmf, and then cannot open it. I don't even have the Arcreader.exe in my bin folder. Do we have to install Reader separately now? I can't find a work about it anywhere on the forums. If yes, I assume both can be installed at the same time? We have a number of users that need both (Reader only so they can create markup).
Thanks, Gman

It is a seperate install.  We did ours through group policy on everyones computer and then I did ArcGIS 10 manually for the users that needed it.

Thanks for confirming. You'd think with that change there would be at least one comment somewhere along the lines of it no longer being part of the desktop install... Anyway, I appreciate the validation.
cheers, G
