Webcam Issue Arpad 10

Using a tablet pc with usb2.0 webcam.

QuickCapture brings up camera window and a window with "OK", "cancel" and an option set icon appears.  Clicking on OK has no effect, "cancel" close the window and the options button brings up a sub window "camera properties" which shows the usb camera, resolution and a key for the OK function.  this is set to "Return"

Pressing the return button or clicking on OK in the Arcpad camera window elicits a "beep" but nothing else.  The path for photos has been set and is accessible.
The manual suggests that the DirectShow api can be used and a third party application (that we wrote) works fine with the camera.

Any ideas?

Make sure you do not have the camera open in any other application. Having the camera running in another application will result in similar described behavior. Once the camera application is closed, ArcPad Camera functionality should work as expected.

On PCs (including tablet PCs), ArcPad  includes a module for cameras which interface via the standard Windows  Multimedia API (MCI), and also a module for camera which interface via  Microsoft's Direct Show API. In ArcPad 10, the ArcPad  Camera module was added. This module communicates with Microsoft's Direct Show  API, ensuring that it will work with a greater range of cameras. This module is  available for both Windows and Windows Mobile.

You might be encountering known issue with ArcPad 10 when using Tablet PC, CQ00312810; Camera fails to start in ArcPad 10 when physical screen rotation is changed on  tablet PC.

If this above suggestion doesn't help or CQ doesn't pertain to your configuration and you are current in ArcPad  maintenance, please log a support question with Esri Support Services so we can help troubleshoot and identify this issue. We now have Phone, Email, Webform, and Chat options for your convenience.

Thank you,
Denise

Hi,

No other application is running and the screen resolution/rotation has not been changed.

We actually sell rugged tablet pcs and bundle Arcpad with the units for sale.  This is a new model and we need to see if it can be resolved.  As we don't use Arcpad merely sell it we don;t have maintenance.

If we load an application that uses DirectShow drivers ittworks fine with the camera so we think the camera and drivers are OK.

Peter,

Can you provide an email address for further communication? I would like to see if we can identify and resolve this issue. Are you an Esri Partner or Authorized Reseller? If so, you should have access to Esri Support Services.

Thanks,
Denise

Did you ever come up with a solution to this? We have exactly the same problem on a Fujitsu tablet running Windows 7.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Mark

Looking for solutions on this.
We loaded Windows 8 (full version) onto our tablet.
Had it working in the office with ArcPad.
Now our field guys are out there trying to use it and got an error with the internal camera
because it couldn't use it - just a very generic error.
ArcPad build 10.0.4

Hi Garrett,

What type of tablet PC are you using with ArcPad 10.0.4? Please contact Esri Support so we can see if you are encountering NIM077684, a known issue with some tablet PCs and ArcPad 10 release. We might be able to provide a test fix for you to test but this hasn't yet been tested with Windows 8 OS so no guarantees it will work or not. Have your Support analyst contact me regarding the ArcPad camera fix.

Cheers,
Denise
