Hello Folks,
I'm using a mapping procedure that employs ArcPad 10 on a Trimble with Windows Mobile 6.5 professional.
There have been some problems with getting this system to function as desired.
(1)We have a large problem now with a message after opening up a Check Out in ArcPad:
SERIOUS ERROR ENCOUNTERED CHECK ARCPAD.LOG FILE.
ESRI support said that some of the Field Headings are invalid. But as far as we can determine- nothing has changed in
our Check-out procedures, which have worked in the past. The database info that we use is for a botanic garden with
taxonomic names, the accession numbers, the garden plots (polygons) that we are surveying in- using a laser range finder, and sometimes there is recently surveyed points that are checked out so that we can reference their location while surveying if necessary. Effort is always given to minimize the quantity of data so that limitations to memory, processing speed, and application crashes are avoided.
(2) A consultant who has set up this botanic garden version of ArcGIS 10- set up a procedure of not Syncing the data using Sync procedures. Maybe this has to do with something unique regarding the database information and the data is not "syncable", but I'm wondering if it is just a quick fix- because the common procedure now is to use Windows Explorer to manage all Check ins and outs.
Is there something inherently wrong or debilitating to the Check in/out process if one does not use the Sync data procedures and instead, one just moves the data manually from one device to another in W Explorer?
Your help is very much appreciated.
