Hiding Column Fields in .AXF files

Greetings-

I am currently in the process of learning how to use ArcPAD and ArcPad Studio. My company is in the process of doing power pole numbering and inspection. I have figured out how to "Check-Out" my data (Specially my Support_Structure Feature Class). I have a few other feature classes as background .SHP files. I am slowly learned how to use ArcPad Studio and getting a little lost.
I have figured out how to turn-on and off a field column in a background .SHP file. But that doesn't help me.

I have around 3 dozen column fields in the feature class (Support_Structures) from my Geodatabase. When the .AXF file is opened in ArcPad on my mobile device, it gives me around 7 attribute tabs. However, there are only about 7 or 8 columns fields that data needs to be entered and those are the only fields I want to display. So my goal is to limit the 7 attributes tabs down to 1 or 2.

How do I hide or remove those other column fields that I do not want to display in ArcPad but not remove from the overall .AXF and Geodatabase?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hi,
The easiest way to go about this is to hide the fields in ArcMap before you check data out. (On the fields tab of the layer's properties window, just uncheck the boxes you don't want.) You'll notice that during the checkout process, on the window where you specify where the folder is saved and what the ArcPad Map should be called, there is a checkbox that says "Only get fields selected as visible in layer's properties".

This will prevent those fields from even being checked out to the unit, which will probably improve its performance anyway, although obviously you can't alter any values in those fields.

Hope this helps,
Eric
