Create a Style for an ArcPad-Layer without ArcMap

Hi,

I export a shape file from another GIS as ArcGIS. Thus, no apl file is generated. Now I want to use the shape file in ArcPad 10, but it must be symbolized. Can I generate the apl file differently than they write by hand?
