I hope somebody can help because I am going INSANE right now.
Currently my office is using the new ArcGIS 10.0 series and the check out procedure is in a completely different format than what it was in our older version of ArcPad. So I skimmed through the forum and found this:
I followed the pdf and when I get to the Finish button and hit it, the layer check out report should pop up, HOWEVER ArcMap is crashing on me. How do I get past this problem?
A little background information: I work for the NPS and we routinely go to designated vegetation plots and take GPS points of where we place rebar and nails so we can find them in the future. Before heading out to the field I check out an uplands template that is editable and the feature classes are only checked out as schema. I'm not sure how to do this the correct way in the new 10 series. I also need to make the uplands template an axf file.
I am including the check out/in work flow for ArcPad (8 & 10) in case you feel that it was different in the previous versions of ArcPad that you worked in. this should give you a step-by-step work flow to take your data out, and make edits in the field and check them back into your database.
HowTo: Check Out/In data from ArcMap to ArcPad for editing
If after walking through these steps and you are having issues with simply just checking out the data, maybe ArcMap crashes. I would suggest isolating out the layer which may be causing the crash, and then investigate it further. I would look at domains, subtypes etc. verify all the coded values are correct within the domains, most of the time this will be the cause. One last suggestion I would make, in the check out process you have a panel where you will name the folder, .apm etc. please verify the option for ??Validate feature classes before checking out? this will fire an error of the feature and domain that will need to be addressed.
