Does ArcPad need to be installed on the same computer that data is transfered to/from the portable GPS unit? I'd like to have ArcPad installed on my computer, however the data is typically transfered to our network on a tablet PC, which would do me little good. My impressions based on what I've read is that I need to Check In/Check Out using one computer, but that the files can be transfered to/from the GPS unit from any computer. Thanks

You are able to check out your data to a network location, and then transfer the data from the network onto the mobile device.

Then when you are ready to check in the data, you are able to transfer the data from the device onto the network location and override those files.

Then you can check in the files that were updated from the network, and check them in locally.

Please let us know if this helps your current work flow, this can also depend on the version of ArcPad that you may be working with.
