Am I still allowed to ask ArcPad 7.0.1 questions here? I know it's way old, but hey, it's simple, fast, it mostly works and it's paid for!

Here's my setup.

HP Revolve 810 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise
ArcPad 7.0.1
Trimble Pathfinder XB Bluetooth GPS receiver

To set it all up initially, it works great.
-Power on the Trimble
-From the Bluetooth icon in the system tray, do Add a Device
- It finds the Trimble, so select it and choose Next
- Choose Enter the Device's Pairing code, and in the next window enter it (it's 0183 for ref.)
- Says it's been successfully added, now checking for drivers.
- After a few secs it says it's successfully installed the drivers and you're good to go
- When looking at the Properties of the device, it says it's on COM4.

- Open ArcPad 7.0.1
- In GPS Prefs, just change Port to COM4 and Baud to 9600 and say OK.
- Activate GPS
- Open the GPS/Rangefinder debug window, and see that it's sending data.
- ArcPad is happy with the GPS and it shows where you are.

Here's where the problems start....

If I power down the Trimble and turn it back on, or, if I reboot the PC.....

- In my bluetooth devices window I still see the Trimble and it still says it's assigned to the same COM port and is working nicely.
- But, when I activate the GPS in ArcPad again, I get an error message: "Error 5 when attempting to open communications port COM4:"
- I double check the GPS Preferences and they're the same...

The only remedy I seem to have is to Remove the Trimble from Bluetooth devices, and then re-install it as if it were brand new. Which sucks, and won't fly with my field people.

Anyone have any ideas for a fix? Don't know if there's something buried deep in the security settings or I'm just missing something really obvious.

Thanks!

Matt
