ArcPad 10 and attachments

Can anyone tell me if Attachments are supported in ArcPad 10?  I see an example of a work flow for integrating pics, but I thought someone told me you could use attachments in ArcPad 10 and have the pics stored right with your geodatabase.

I have the same questions.
I can't seem to spot the attachments anywhere on Arcpad after exporting the data files(including attachments) from ArcMap.
Hopefully someone from ESRI can please help out?

Hi guys,

At the moment ArcPad 10 does not use attachments. It has always had the ability to create hyperlinks and now you can store the correct path of your file server when you are setting up your project e.g. When you check your data in it will copy from the sd card to the correct network location and basically run a calculate field over your data so the paths are pointing to the correct location.

So the hardiest thing is to decide where you are going to store the photos so people have access to them in this project, across your organisation and potentially the web.

Thanks for your quick reply. It is unfortunate that ArcPad can't read attachments. Hopefully this will be included in future releases?

As a workaround I thought of maybe using a hyperlink to link to a folder which is sitting on the sd card of the Juno which contains all the attachments. We are not running a server at the moment so the Juno is working offline so hence we can't really point to a file server. Is there a way to hyperlink to a folder?

Hi,

I should be a little clearer when talking about file servers. This could just be a folder on your own PC. Therefore if you want all your photos to be stored on c:\projects\Photos\ then put that in your photo path and when you synchronize your data through the get Data from ArcPad, it will move the files there and then run the calculate field on your dataset so the links automatically work on the desktop.

While you are working in ArcPad and you take a photo it will automatically remember where you have placed your photos (look at the Options tab - Camera to set path) and you can use either the hyperlink tool or the identify/edit form and navigate to the photo page.
