Hello,

I am an undergraduate IT graduate who then furthered his studies in Geography (hons). I would like to start developing some small-scale add-in programs for ArcGIS or Arcmap. However, I have visual studio 2010 only installed on my computer and not ArcMap.

I saw a installation process online detailing that one should have ArcMap installed on their PCs and in the installation wizard choose to add the SDK.

Now, I would like to know if it is possible to have visual studio standalone and add the SDK if it is available on the side and then work through integration programming from one software to another.

I am quite keen on programming GIS software someday and would like to start somewhere, small-scale and grow thereof. Any help hereon will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

ESRI sells a Home Version of ArcGIS.  http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgis-for-home  It allows downloading a mess of applications and the ArcObjects SDK.
