Since at least 2010 I've been using VB.net on my ArcObject software with the appropriate version of Visual Studio. The installation of the ESRI SDK would allow me to recompile existing projects and open new projects in the latest supported version of Visual Studio. I've recently upgraded my IDE support to VS 2017; installed the required version of the ESRI SDK and there is no template or evidence of one that supports a new VS.net ArcObjects project nor an option to install ESRI licensing.
I think I found the answer. I just didn't search hard enough to find where to download the right SDK for VS 2017. I haven't done it yet but everything should work as before.
