How to create thumbnail of each layer in ArcMap

Hi,

    I am still new to ArcGIS, so could you please give me any information.

    I would like to create images at any scale, if possible, for each layer
    in a map with other specific layer data such as main land of U.S. using ArcMap,
    which make it easy to know the location of each feature classes on main land without
    running ArcMap later.
    So far, I found the previous forum below on how to create thumbnail, and I found it works
    using ArcCatalog.

    Also, I know ArcMap can generate thumbnail of map document when saving it.
    But this is different with what I would like to do.
