Does ArcGIS License Manager Log Reset Every Month?

Does anybody know if the log file "lmgrd9.log" associated with ArcGIS Desktop License Manger resets at a regular interval?  I was going to review it to document which users are actually using the software.  However, when I checked today (12/26/2023), the earliest date I observed  was 12/03/2023.

This leads me to believe this log file resets each month.  I was hoping to perform a year-end audit to see which users have actually used the concurrent-use licenses over the past year.

If I can confirm it resets on a regular interval, I can update my auditing based upon that.  I appreciate any insights you may have.

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi @PatrickMcKinney99 - did you ever find a solution to this one?

Trying to find out if there is a way to set a longer retention period on the lmgrd file.

By default it resets everytime the service is restarted.

@SimonGIS  - My solution is to run a weekly script that copies the lmgrd9.log with a date-stamp in the file name.  I also email myself the copy of the file.

Though not the ideal solution, it allows me to keep a record of concurrent-use licensing.

I'll also note that we are in the process of preparing to transition all users to the named user model, as Esri is sort of forcing us in that direction.

After installing License Manager 2022.1, I am seeing similar behavior.  How do we like the idea that the License Manager software is allowed to destroy useful information?

@PatrickMcKinney99 - if the lmgrd log file reset (rollover) were done monthly by the software, wouldn't the first entry be 12/1/2023?

I found the article linked below. Not sure if all of it applies. ArcGIS License Manager documentation does mention the use of a DEBUGLOG option in the ARCGIS.opt file, just like this article. The [AUTO_ROLLOVER size] option is presented which is not mentioned in the ArcGIS License Manager documentation.

I assume Flexera is now Revenera.

@PatrickMcKinney99  - is your file rolling over at 512 MB? The link above says that's the default.

The link below discusses the DEBUGLOG option from the ArcGIS License Manager documentation but does not go into the detail that the previous link does.

@McKinneyPatrick_PA - your solution of automatically duplicating the log file to another location is probably more reliable than relying on the DEBUGLOG option. Can you be sure that it will be copied before the auto rollover occurs every time?

Prior to this change in License Manager, the log file was useful...it could be used to determine license usage.

I also learned that upgrading the License Manager wipes out the lmgrd log file.

I was not aware of the auto roll-over feature.  My current script could probably be modified to check the file size, and then copy if it is nearing the threshold.

However, as concurrent-use licensing is being deprecated, I am less concerned about this.  We are planning on moving desktop users to named user licensing during our software renewal this year.
