I'm not a heavy user of ArcMap.  However, I have encountered a problem after I installed version 10.8.1

When I try to load a previous map, it will not show the map.  There are little red dots in each of the layers and when I tried to point to the file where the data is coming from it will not show the contents of the file.  The file is an excel xls file.  I'm frustrated to say the least.  This map use to work before I installed the new release.  I've attached a word document with some screen shots.  Hopefully this will help.

I don't think those layers are referring to Excel files.

Could you check Layer Properties > Source, and check if you can find the data source? Maybe you will get an idea which shapefile/Geodatabase Feature Class you should be looking for.

Feel free to share the snapshot of the Source tab, if you still have confusion.
