We have been using GDAL to create raster datasets and often use the SPARSE_OK option to reduce the file size. https://gdal.org/drivers/raster/gtiff.html#sparse-files
However, some of our clients cannot open the files because they are using older versions of ArcMap. As it says in the GDAL doc (link above):
"They will be likely not interoperable with TIFF readers that are not GDAL based and would consider such files with implicit tiles/strips as defective."
I tried opening some of our datasets in ArcMap 10.5 and it seemed to work ok. So, does anyone know if there have been changes to ArcMap to allow reading of sparse rasters, and if so, what version?
