Hi All,
Can we create a new assignment in Workforce but the objects are lines? Commonly while creating new assignments, we click on the map, which somehow creates a point. Just wonder, can we create line and assign it to be inspected by the field workers?
thank you.
Workforce assignments by default is a point feature service. It will not support creating a line or polygon geometry for as the assignment. In our case we pair Workforce with Survey123, where Workforce represents the location that the inspection is taking place (point) and we use Survey123 to record the field observation that took place (in some cases a pipeline observation) and relate the observation to a specific pipe.

We do the exact same thing when it comes to doing field inspections on poles and transformers. The assignment refers to the location and the Survey123 is the inspection.
Let me ask you a question on how you prepare the project if I may. How do you load your day for inspections into the individual assignments? My current practice is to load the workforce hosted feature layer into ArcGIS Pro and append the data from a GDB feature class to the FL and update the assignment type, worker ID and any other relevant data. However, one issue I have seen with this workflow is not ALL of the features append into the FL AND I get complaints from our field crew(s) that while doing inspections, some of the assignments are not selectable, which means they cannot select/open it to edit/add notes. Any feedback on that?
Also, how do you go about adding the survey to the assignment? I simply just add the link to each assignment and the user clicks on it and goes right to the form and beings their inspection.
Curious on your thoughts and process(s).
