It would be useful from a UI perspective for those designing workflows to have the ability to group specific steps of a workflow together and label these. This would be particularly beneficial for understanding the workflow at a glance and for easier hand over of workflow management over time e.g. when handing it over for future users to manage and understand. The type of functionality similar to Model Builder in ArcGIS Pro.
Currently in Workflow Manager, we provide the ability to change the shape and color of any step in a diagram. This allows for some of this grouping you're looking for I think. I've done this below with some of our steps, you can make these changes on the Style tab of the Step Details panel. I've also added some labels above each group by double clicking on the diagram canvas and typing in some text.
Is this what you were looking for or did you have something else in mind?
Thanks,
Jonathan
Hi @JFarmer ,
Thank you for your response.
The current functionality is really useful, we are making use of the colours to depict (at a glance) what team maintains each published geoprocessing service and to differentiate key step types, and we are making use of the shapes to depict what team the workflow is assigned to at any given point.
To enhance our user experience it would be great to select a group of steps and be able to put a box around them, much like you can in ModelBuilder in ArcGIS Pro, and label each group of steps accordingly, for example, 'Data Processing Segment' or 'Quality Assurance Segment'.
Many Thanks,
Haley
OK, I found this documentation for Model Builder that seems to be what you're looking for here?
Is the goal here for administrators and workflow designers to see this in the web application when they look at diagrams? Or are you envisioning that users running through steps in a job or other users would need to see this as well?
