Copy and Paste features from added data

Hi! I am new to using ArcGIS Web Editor. With the Copy and paste editing feature, can this be done with newly added data (not from an existing layer in my web map). Ideally I'd like to be able to add a shapefile and copy those feature to an existing layer.

Thanks!

Hello @Hannah3

Copy and Paste is only supported on existing layer in the web map.  Web Editor does not have the ability to add layers or add layers from file, it requires an already configured web map.

The workflow would be to use Map Viewer to add the Shapefile from File (which will create feature layer), save the map and then use it in Web Editor.  We don't have any plans to support what you're looking for at this time; can you go into any more detail on your workflow?  How often are you doing this? And if the workflow I just mentioned would help at all?

thanks,

Hello,

I'm joining this conversation .

I have a scenario where my users receive data from files, like shp or FGDB. This contains plans for new building or site that needs some checking and approvals. The users need to add this plan to our main plan layer, do some checks and write and log their response.

By your solution, I have to allow my users (application, gpservice and permissions):

--add the temporary layer from file ( in EXPBLD),
--somehow to create a hosted feature layer,
--somehow  add it permanently to the web map and save the web map,
--change to web editor in order to copy the feature,
--and then - somehow remove the layer from the web map and delete the hosted feature layer.

by "somehow" I mean writing python as gpservice.

Am I correct?

Any other solution?

In web appbuilder I could do it easily using smart editor without the need to do permanent changes.

Thank you

@OfraAi We are working towards this; both in Experience Builder and Web Editor.  We're working on bringing the Copy/Paste capability to Experience Builder, which, if that is all that is missing from your workflow, would allow you to complete it in Experience Builder.

Thank you @CraigGillgrass ,

Do you know when it will be ready? in ArcGIS Online and more important for me, in ArcGIS Enterprise?

Do you have a workaround for the meanwhile?

@OfraAi I don't believe what you're trying to do is possible right now, I'm sorry, I don't have a workaround in Experience Builder or Web Editor - if you need this workflow, Web App Builder would be your best option for now.

We're working on bringing Copy/Paste into Experience Builder over the next few releases of ArcGIS Online - I expect the functionality to be in an Enterprise release in 2026 but I can't comment on which one at this time.

@CraigGillgrass Thank you.

I hope that functionality will be available before JS 3.X and web App Builder will not be available.

Best regards
